about avril

Avril has been working for 30 years in the design industry, in both commercial and residential design, either in an independent capacity or for established practices in Dublin and Amsterdam.

Graduating from The College of Marketing and Design, in 1988, Avril started off in residential design but moved quickly into Retail, Office and Hotel Design. In the early 1990s Avril worked with an Interiors Design Practice in Amsterdam and later in Dublin as the Interior Designer with the architectural practice Henry J. Lyons. In the late 90s, before moving to Amsterdam for a second time, Avril was the Interiors Consultant to House and Home magazine, working on their regular Make-over article.

Television is something Avril always thought about on some level but was so busy career-wise and raising her family she opted to leave it as an aspiration. Shortly after her return from Amsterdam she was given the opportunity of presenting Desperate Houses on RTÉ. Avril believes her experience of listening to what clients want and then translating this into smart design solutions has helped her on the show.

Avril was recently accredited in Ireland’s Social and Personal magazine with introducing the concept of “The Interiors Design Coach” to the Irish interiors industry.

Avril has lectured in Interior Design with the D.I.T. and more recently with the Dublin Institute of Design. She also gives Design Seminars on a regular basis and hosted the Live Studio at the Spring House and Garden show in the RDS.

Avril lives in Dublin with her husband and two children.
